You took the night guard job at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza thinking it'd be easy money. Six hours of watching cameras, maybe a coffee or two, and done. Then Phone Guy's first message plays, and you realize the animatronics aren't just decorations. They move. They hunt. And they're coming straight for your office.

This Five Nights at Freddy's 1 guide walks you through exactly how to beat every night, from the mostly quiet first shift to the nightmare that is Night 5. Android and PC players will find, the strategies are the same. What changes is how fast you need to react.

FNAF 1 Core Mechanics You Need to Understand

Before diving into night-specific strategies, let's talk about the systems that decide whether you make it to 6 AM.

Your office has two hallway doors, two lights, and a camera tablet. Everything runs on a limited power supply. At the start of each night, you get a fixed amount of power. Using cameras, lights, or closing doors all drain it. Run out and the building goes dark. Freddy Fazbear plays a music box at the left door, the lights flicker, and if the clock runs out before 6 AM hits, you're dead.

Think of power as your real health bar. The animatronics are scary, but running out of power is what actually kills you in FNAF 1. Every second you keep a door closed or a light on costs you safety later. Good power management is the difference between a clean run and getting jumpscared at 5:58 AM with zero power.

The animatronics each have unique behavior patterns. Learning them isn't optional. You need to know who comes from where, how fast they move, and what triggers their attacks.

    Freddy Fazbear

Freddy only moves through the right hallway, and only when your camera is down. He's the slowest animatronic but also the hardest to track because he likes hiding in dark rooms. You'll hear his laugh each time he moves. Track him through CAM 1A (stage), CAM 1B (dining area), CAM 7 (restrooms), CAM 6 (kitchen (cameras don't work here), CAM 4A (right hall), and finally CAM 4B (right door).

Once Freddy reaches CAM 4B, he's at your right door. If you check the right light and he's there, close the door fast. Freddy doesn't leave once he arrives. He'll stay camped outside until you open the door, at which point he'll jump right in. The only safe move is keeping the right door closed while doing everything else.

    Bonnie

Bonnie moves through the left side of the building. Path: CAM 1A → CAM 1B → CAM 5 → CAM 3 → CAM 2A → CAM 2B (left door). He's the first animatronic to become active, usually within the first hour of Night 1.

When Bonnie reaches CAM 2B, check your left light. If you see him standing there, close the left door. He'll eventually wander back into the building. If you hear heavy footsteps approaching the left door, that's Bonnie. Flick the light, close the door, wait for the footsteps to retreat.

    Chica

Chica takes the right-side route alongside Freddy. Her path: CAM 1A → CAM 1B → CAM 7 → CAM 6 → CAM 4A → CAM 4B. She moves slower than Bonnie but becomes active on Night 2 and stays aggressive throughout. Her main threat is that she blocks the right door, forcing you to juggle between her and Freddy. When Chica's at your door, you'll hear clattering sounds from the kitchen if she's in CAM 6.

    Foxy

Foxy doesn't walk through the halls. He hides behind the curtain in Pirate Cove (CAM 1C). You need to check this camera regularly. The curtain has multiple stages: fully closed, partially open, nearly open, and fully open. When it's fully open, Foxy has sprinted. You have about two seconds to close the left door before he slams into your office and drains a chunk of your power.

The less you check Pirate Cove, the faster Foxy progresses. Check him once every time you cycle through cameras and you'll keep him contained. Neglect him for too long and the sprint is nearly guaranteed.

    Night 1: Getting Your Bearings

Night 1 in FNAF 1 is about learning, not surviving. Phone Guy's call takes up most of the first hour, so you're only defending for about five and a half hours of game time. Bonnie is the only active threat. Chica rarely shows up, and Freddy and Foxy stay dormant.

Your strategy for Night 1: flip up the camera briefly, check Bonnie's position, then put the tablet down. Flip it up again maybe once more before the hour changes. You'll burn almost zero power and coast to 6 AM.

The real value of Night 1 is memorizing the camera layout. Know CAM 1A from CAM 4B by heart, track the left vs right hallways, and get comfortable with Pirate Cove. If Phone Guy's message hasn't finished, the shift is still safe. Use that time to study the map.

This is also when you figure out your camera rhythm. Two quick camera flips per hour, then back to listening. Don't sit there staring at the camera screen. The less you use the tablet, the safer you are. Bonnie doesn't attack while you're holding the monitor up, but the moment you put it down, he advances. Flip, check, put it down. Move fast.

Night 2: Bonnie and Chica Go Active

Night 2 introduces Chica into the mix. Bonnie's also faster now. Both left and right sides are under threat, but the right door still gets less pressure. Freddy stays put on the stage. Foxy starts creeping, which means Pirate Cove checks become mandatory.

Your camera rotation needs to expand: check Pirate Cove (CAM 1C) first, then scan the left path for Bonnie, then the right path for Chica. When you hear footsteps, use the relevant door light instead of the camera. Door lights cost less power than closing a door plus using the camera. Flick the light, confirm who's there, close the door only if someone is standing directly outside. As soon as they leave, open the door.

This is where a lot of new FNAF 1 players panic and lock both doors. Don't. Locking both doors drains power at triple the normal rate. Only close a door when an animatronic is at it. Keep the doors open and rely on lights and cameras for information. Power management is everything.

The big mistake I see on Night 2 is people burning through 20% of their power by 2 AM and then panicking. Relax. Check cameras twice per hour, lights on footsteps, doors only when needed. You'll finish with 30-40% power easily.

    Night 3: Freddy Wakes Up

This is the night where FNAF 1 starts to feel dangerous. Freddy begins moving off the stage. Foxy gets more aggressive. Bonnie and Chica are both at full speed. The right side of the building now has two threats, and if both Freddy and Chica reach CAM 4B at similar times, you'll be burning power fast.

Your priority order shifts: Freddy is now the biggest threat on the right. Check CAM 1A for him first. If he's gone from the stage, locate him immediately. Do not leave the camera on any other view until you know where Freddy is. He moves when your camera is down, so every second you spend not checking his position lets him get closer.

The right door is going to be closed more often now. Accept that, but don't keep it shut unnecessarily. If Freddy's at CAM 4A, he'll be at your door very soon. Close the right door preemptively before you check other cameras. When Chica also reaches the right door, you'll need to prioritize.

For Bonnie on the left and Foxy in Pirate Cove, maintain your routine. Check Pirate Cove every camera cycle. Flick the left light when you hear footsteps. Don't let Foxy's curtain get past the second stage. The sprint is loud and costs you up to 15% power instantly, plus it leaves the left door closed for several seconds.

    Night 3: Freddy Wakes Up

    Night 4: Everything Is Faster

Night 4 is where FNAF 1 really tests you. All four animatronics are active at high speed. Freddy moves fast. Foxy's curtain opens quickly if you ignore him. Bonnie and Chica are relentless. Power becomes incredibly tight.

Your Night 4 FNAF 1 strategy: prioritize the right door above everything else. Freddy and Chica both come from the right. If both are at CAM 4B, keep the right door closed and manage the left side only through lights. Check Pirate Cove on every second camera cycle instead of every cycle. You can't afford the power drain of constant camera use.

Here's the camera rhythm for Night 4: flip up, check Freddy's position, check Pirate Cove, put camera down. That's it. Don't scan the building. You don't have the power to track everyone. The left door gets managed by sound alone. If you hear footsteps from the left, flick the light, close the door if needed, then go back to monitoring Freddy.

Another critical tip for Night 4: never check the right hallway camera if you hear heavy footsteps from the right. Instead, immediately close the right door and use the right light. Chica's faster than Freddy and sometimes reaches the door before you expect. Thirty seconds with the right door closed is cheaper power-wise than getting jumpscared and losing the whole run.

If everything goes well, you'll finish Night 4 with maybe 5-10% power left. That's normal. This night is designed to push you to the limit.

    Night 5: The Toughest Shift

Night 5 is brutal. Every animatronic is at maximum aggression. Phone Guy doesn't call, so there's no safe period at the start. The whole six hours are live.

Your FNAF 1 Night 5 strategy is a modified version of Night 4's, but tighter: keep the camera on CAM 1A until Freddy moves, then track him exclusively. Pirate Cove checks every other cycle. Left side managed by sound cues only. Right door closed whenever Freddy is anywhere past CAM 6.

The key difference from Night 4 is that you can't afford to hesitate. When you hear a sound cue, you act immediately. Footsteps from the left: light, check, close door if needed, then back to Freddy. Giggle from Freddy: find him on cameras immediately. Foxy's sprint noise: slam that left door.

Don't get distracted by checking other cameras for Chica. If you're closing the right door for Freddy, Chica is automatically blocked too since they share the same door. Only worry about Chica when Freddy isn't on the right side. If Freddy goes back to an earlier camera, that's when you check for Chica.

Golden Freddy can show up on Night 5 if you look at his poster in CAM 2B for too long. If you see him sitting in your office, pull up the camera immediately. He despawns when you look away. Don't stare at that poster.

Power runs out fast on Night 5. You'll hear Freddy's music box at the end. If you have five seconds left when power hits zero, watch the clock and don't move. If you have thirty seconds left, pray Freddy's music plays long enough. The average Night 5 run finishes with less than 3% power.

    Custom Night: Surviving 4/20 Mode

Once you beat Night 5, you unlock Custom Night. Set every animatronic to difficulty 20 and you're playing what the FNAF community calls 4/20 mode. This is the ultimate challenge.

The 4/20 FNAF 1 strategy is entirely about the right door. Freddy at level 20 sits at CAM 4B almost permanently. Which means the right door stays closed for most of the run. You budget all your power around this fact.

Here's the rotation: close right door immediately at 12 AM. Open camera. Find Freddy if he's left the stage. Check Pirate Cove. Close camera. Check left light. Repeat. The right door opens only when your camera confirms Freddy is not at CAM 4A or 4B. As soon as he's nearby, close it again.

Foxy at level 20 runs extremely fast. You check Pirate Cove every single camera cycle. One missed cycle and he's gone. Bonnie at level 20 will sit at the left door for long stretches, so expect to use the left door frequently.

Power will be your enemy. You'll finish 4/20 mode with single-digit power percentage or not finish at all. This takes multiple attempts for most players. The strategy is sound, but the execution is brutal. Android players, take note: the touch controls make camera cycling slightly slower than on PC, so you need even more aggressive door management on mobile.

    Final Tips

The biggest lesson across every FNAF 1 night: don't panic. The jumpscares exist to make you tense and twitchy, but the game rewards calm, methodical play. Know the patterns, trust your sound cues, and keep your power usage lean.

If you're stuck on a specific night, record yourself playing and watch it back. You'll spot wasted camera time and unnecessary door closures that eat your power budget. Fix those leaks and you'll clear the night with room to spare.
