FNAF 2 Survival Guide: Tips and Tricks to Beat Every Night

2026-07-22
Survive all five nights in FNAF 2 with this complete guide. Learn how to counter every animatronic, manage the music box, and use the Freddy mask effectively on Android.
If you've just downloaded FNAF 2 on your Android phone and can't get past night three, you're not alone. This is the hardest game in the series, and it throws eleven animatronics at you with no doors to hide behind. You get a flashlight and a Freddy head mask. That's it.
This FNAF 2 guide covers how each character behaves, what to prioritize, and the exact strategy that'll get you through nights four, five, and beyond. Whether it's the Puppet's music box or Foxy's hallway sprint that keeps killing you, you'll find the fix here.
How FNAF 2 Is Different From the First Game
The biggest change in FNAF 2: no doors. In the original, you'd slam a door when Bonnie got too close and wait it out. Here, you get a Freddy Fazbear head mask. Put it on when an animatronic enters your office, and most of them will leave you alone. It sounds simple. It isn't — because while you're wearing the mask, you can't do anything else.
You also have no power limit. The flashlight in FNAF 2 has infinite battery, so you can flick the lights down the hallway as much as you want. This is huge. Use it constantly.
The Music Box Is Your First Priority
Here's the thing most new FNAF 2 players get wrong: they spend too much time staring at the hallway lights and not enough time winding the music box.
The Puppet lives in the Prize Corner (CAM 11). When the music box winds down, a red exclamation mark appears. If you let it sit like that for too long, the Puppet leaves the box and kills you instantly. No mask can stop it. No flashlight. It just ends your run.
Wind the music box every time you pull up the monitor. Check one camera, wind the box, check another, wind the box. Make it a rhythm. On later nights, you'll need to wind it almost constantly.
Every FNAF 2 Animatronic and How to Deal With Them
Toy Freddy, Toy Bonnie, and Toy Chica
The Toy animatronics are the new faces in FNAF 2. Toy Bonnie and Toy Chica come through the vents. When you see them in the vent blind spot (the light next to the vent opening), put on the mask immediately. They'll peek into the office, stare at you for a few seconds, and leave.
Toy Freddy takes the hallway path. When he's at the end of the hall and you see his face in the light, put on the mask. He takes longer to leave than the other Toys, so keep the mask on until the lights return to normal.
Withered Bonnie, Withered Chica, Withered Freddy, and Withered Foxy
These four are the broken-down versions of the original cast. They're slower than the Toys but more aggressive on later nights.
- Withered Bonnie and Withered Chica use both the hallway and the vents. If you see them in the hallway or vent, mask up. Don't wait to see which path they're taking — mask first, check later.
- Withered Freddy is slower but relentless. He almost always takes the hallway. When you pull down the monitor and see him standing at the end of the hall, that's your cue. Put the mask on before you do anything else.
- Withered Foxy is the one that kills most players on night three and beyond. He doesn't appear in the hallway — he just shows up in your office without warning. Here's the pattern: you hear a running sound, the lights flicker, and Foxy's right in front of you. Flash the hallway light at him immediately. Do not put on the mask for Foxy — the flashlight is what repels him. Flash him repeatedly until he leaves.
The Puppet
Already covered, but it bears repeating: the Puppet is the only character that ignores the mask. Wind the music box. Always wind the music box.
Balloon Boy (BB)
BB is annoying, not deadly. He sneaks into your office through the left vent. When he gets in, he disables your flashlight and laughs at you. You can't stop him from entering. You just have to wait for him to leave on his own.
The real danger is what happens while BB is in your office: Foxy. Without your flashlight, you can't stop Foxy from killing you. If BB is in your office and you hear Foxy's running sound, put on the mask and pray.
Mangle
Mangle is Toy Foxy, but mangled. She takes the right vent. When you see her in the vent blind spot, mask up. She's faster than the other vent characters on later nights, so don't delay.
Golden Freddy
Golden Freddy is the rarest threat in FNAF 2. You'll see his slumped body sitting in the hallway briefly — a hallucination. If you see him, put the mask on fast. If you don't, his jumpscare is instant.
Night-by-Night FNAF 2 Strategy
Nights 1 and 2
The Toy animatronics and Balloon Boy are your main threats. Withered Bonnie and Withered Chica might show up, but they're slow. Focus on the music box and check both vents after every wind. Mask goes on whenever a vent light is on or a Toy is in the hallway. You'll barely need to touch the flashlight on these nights.
Night 3
This is where FNAF 2 gets serious. Withered Foxy activates. You'll hear his running for the first time, and it'll scare the life out of you. When you hear it, drop everything — drop the monitor, drop the mask — and flash the hallway. Three quick flashes usually does it.
Withered Bonnie and Chica get more aggressive too. Your rhythm should be: wind music box → check left vent → check right vent → flash hallway → repeat. Mask up anytime you see an animatronic in the vent or hallway.
Night 4
Everything from night three, but faster. Withered Freddy becomes a real threat. Balloon Boy shows up more often. Foxy runs at least twice per night.
The strategy stays the same, but you need to execute it faster. If you're spending more than two seconds on the monitor without winding the music box, you're doing it wrong. Wind, vent check, hallway flash. Wind, vent check, hallway flash. The mask becomes almost automatic — you'll be putting it on and taking it off constantly.
Night 5
All eleven characters are active. Toy Freddy becomes as aggressive as the Withered ones. Mangle moves fast through the right vent. Golden Freddy can show up at any point.
At this difficulty, you're basically speedrunning the same loop. Wind the box the instant you pull up the monitor. Flash the hallway before you even look at it — if Foxy's there, you'll catch him. Check vents as you switch cameras. Keep the mask on for a full five-count whenever you see any character in the office. The rhythm is everything. Lose it for three seconds and something kills you.
FNAF 2 Custom Night and 10/20 Mode
Custom Night lets you set each animatronic's difficulty from 0 to 20. Golden Freddy difficulty is a checkbox (on/off). The infamous 10/20 mode — all eleven on max difficulty — is widely considered the hardest challenge in the entire FNAF series.
For 10/20, the music box is no longer your first priority. It's your only priority. You'll be winding it so often that you barely have time to check vents. Some players use a "wind-only" strategy: spam the music box, flash the hallway between winds, and only mask when you absolutely have to. It takes practice. A lot of practice.
Conclusion
FNAF 2 replaces doors with a mask and adds more characters than any other game in the series. The music box is what most new players ignore, and it's what kills them. Wind it constantly. Flash Foxy. Mask everything else. Once the rhythm clicks, the game goes from impossible to manageable.
