BLEACH Mirrors High Preview: Characters, Combat, and Release

Dorothy Morgan

Everything we know about BLEACH Mirrors High, the new Bleach mobile game by Bandai Namco with Tite Kubo's original story set after the Thousand Year Blood War. Characters, combat system, and release details inside.

Catelog

Few anime IPs carry the weight Bleach does. It ran for 15 years in Weekly Shonen Jump, sold over 130 million copies, and its Thousand Year Blood War anime adaptation pulled massive global viewership. Now Bandai Namco is building a new mobile game that doesn't just retell the story you've already seen; it writes the next chapter.

BLEACH Mirrors High picks up after the Blood War. Tite Kubo is directly involved as writer and character designer. And a closed beta test kicks off July 23. Here's what we know so far about the game's characters, combat, and when you can actually play it.

Original Characters Designed by Tite Kubo

Kubo's involvement shows most in the character designs. These aren't generic mobile game NPCs - they look like they walked out of a Bleach volume cover.

    Protagonists (announced first):

    • Migishima Shirin: One of two starting protagonists. His design carries the sharp, angular look Kubo is known for, with a Zanpakuto that uses a distinctive cross-guard shape
    • Sanari Shirane: The second protagonist option. Her character art has a more subdued expression and traditional Shinigami uniform styling. Picking between the two determines which perspective you experience the opening story from

New Gotei 13 Members (revealed July 18, 2026):

    • Jurinna Naru (CV: Izumi Kazehana): A new squad member who appears in the system trailer during combat sequences
    • Hando Giro (CV: Batori Shogo): Male team member shown in several formation screenshots
    • Tokishima Maiko (CV: Shino Shizuka): Female team member, appears in the "Soul Resonance" coordinated attack sequence in the trailer

All five carry Kubo's exact art style: the distinctive faces, the flowing Shinigami robes, the creative Zanpakuto shapes. For Bleach fans who finished the manga and want to see what Kubo's designs look like in the post-Blood War era, these characters alone are a draw.

Combat: 3-Person Squads and Card-Based Tactics

The combat system mixes real-time action with strategic card play. You form a three-person team, then during battle you pick from a hand of skill cards that determine what each character does.

This isn't a full action brawler like BLEACH Brave Souls. Bandai Namco describes it as combining "speed and strategy" : your finger taps select actions, but the combat animations play out with the kind of cinematic flair you'd expect from a modern anime game.

Key combat elements shown in the system trailer:

    • Card-based attacks: Each card maps to a specific move for one of your three squad members. You're not manually controlling movement - you're choosing which attack sequence plays out
    • Special moves: Each character has a high-impact finisher with full-screen animation. The trailer shows a Zanpakuto release sequence that looks pulled directly from the anime's best fight cuts
    • Soul Resonance: All three squad members execute a coordinated combo. This is the system's big spectacle moment. The trailer's Soul Resonance sequence has the team linking attacks in rapid succession with dramatic camera work
    • Zanpakuto impact: Your weapon configuration determines available skill cards. Different blade shapes and modifications change which attacks you can use

It's closer to a tactical RPG with action presentation than a pure action game. If you've played games like Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross, you'll recognize the card-deck-meets-3D-animation approach. Bandai Namco's version looks faster-paced.

Zanpakuto Customization: Build Your Own Blade

The Zanpakuto system might be the game's most talked-about early feature. Instead of collecting pre-made weapons, you customize your own:

    • Blade shape: Pick the base form. Curved, straight, wide, narrow; each affects combat style
    • Guard (tsuba): Choose the cross-guard design
    • Hilt wrap: Color and pattern of the tsuka-ito
    • Decorative elements: Charms, ribbons, and other visual add-ons

The customization affects gameplay too. Bandai Namco describes it as directly connected to combat, with different Zanpakuto configurations unlocking different skill card sets. You can save multiple builds and swap between them.

For a Bleach game, this nails what fans actually care about. A Shinigami's identity starts with their Zanpakuto. Letting players build their own puts that identity in their hands instead of locking it behind gacha pulls.

Story: After the Thousand Year Blood War

The Thousand Year Blood War ended with massive changes to the Bleach universe. Yhwach was defeated. The Soul King's role was redefined. The Gotei 13 lost captains and gained new ones. The balance between the worlds shifted.

BLEACH Mirrors High starts in the aftermath. The official synopsis mentions "a soul awakening in Karakura Town" : a callback to the series' roots. Your character, a new Shinigami recruit, investigates anomalies alongside classic Bleach characters. Ichigo, Rukia, and others from the original cast appear as part of the story.

Kubo's involvement means the story should feel consistent with the manga's tone and lore. He's credited for story, character design, and even title creation. This isn't a licensed mobile game where the creator's name gets slapped on for marketing; Bandai Namco has emphasized his hands-on role throughout development.

    Release Date and Platforms

BLEACH Mirrors High doesn't have a launch date. What's confirmed:

    • Platforms: App Store, Google Play (iOS and Android)
    • Pricing: Free to play with in-app purchases
    • CBT: July 23–30, 2026 (recruitment closed)
    • Full reveal: Summer 2026 (Bandai Namco's stated window)
    • Languages confirmed: Japanese, Traditional Chinese. English is likely based on the English system trailer

A late 2026 or early 2027 global launch is a reasonable estimate based on the CBT-to-release timeline of similar mobile games. If the CBT goes smoothly, Bandai Namco could push for a holiday 2026 launch. If they find major issues, early 2027 is more realistic.

How to Follow BLEACH Mirrors High Development

The best sources for updates as the game moves toward launch:

    • APKPure: once the BLEACH Mirrors High APK is available, you'll find it here with direct download for Android
    • Official website: main hub for all announcements
    • Bandai Namco Entertainment social media: trailers and character reveals hit here first
    • Anime Expo and similar events: the second trailer premiered at Anime Expo 2026, suggesting more convention reveals are coming

BLEACH Mirrors High has the pieces that matter: a creator who cares about the story, a combat system that looks distinct from the studio's other Bleach games, and a premise, post-Blood War original story, that fans have wanted for years. The CBT starting July 23 is the first real test of whether the execution matches the promise.
