Hypic Pro: Features and Pricing

Lynda Sumner

The article covers what you get with the paid version, how much it costs, and whether upgrading from the free Hypic photo editor is worth it.

Hypic Pro is the paid tier of ByteDance's photo editor. The free app gives you a lot: basic retouching, standard filters, and background removal, but Pro unlocks the AI-heavy features that make the app stand out from simpler editors. Here's what Pro includes, what it costs, and whether the upgrade makes sense for how you use the app.

    What Hypic Pro Unlocks

    • AI Expand. This is the headliner. Extend your photo beyond its original frame using generative AI. Tightly cropped portrait? Expand the edges into a wider composition. Product photo with a cramped background? Expand the scene. It's the same concept as Photoshop's Generative Expand, but in a mobile app. The quality depends on the complexity of what it's filling in; simple backgrounds (sky, walls, water) expand cleanly; busy patterns and text get unpredictable.
    • Advanced Artistic Filters. The free tier has a solid filter library. Pro adds the top-shelf stuff: oil painting style transfer, watercolor rendering, anime/manga conversion, 3D render effects, and period-specific film emulations. These are the filters people post about on social media, the ones that make a selfie look like a master study or a landscape look like a Ghibli background.
    • 4K Export Without Watermark. Free exports cap at standard resolution with a small Hypic watermark. Pro removes the watermark and lets you export at up to 4K resolution. For content creators uploading to platforms that compress images (which is all of them), the higher source resolution means your photos survive compression better.
    • Batch Processing. Apply the same edits, filters, retouching presets, and color adjustments to multiple photos at once. If you shoot events or post photo carousels regularly, this saves hours of repetitive editing.
    • Unlimited AI Enhancement. The free tier limits how many times you can use the AI upscaling and quality enhancement tools per day. Pro removes those limits.

Priority Server Access. When ByteDance's AI servers are busy (which happens during peak hours when millions of people are editing), Pro users get faster processing.

    Hypic Pro Pricing

Hypic Pro pricing varies by region and is subject to change, but generally falls in the $3-5/month range or roughly $20-30/year for an annual plan. That's cheap compared to premium photo editors; Adobe Lightroom Premium is $5/month, Picsart Gold is $13/month, Facetune is $9/month.

Hypic occasionally offers a free trial period for new users. The trial auto-renews unless cancelled, so set a reminder if you're just testing.

Free vs Pro: What You Keep Without Paying

The free tier is not a trial disguised as free. You get the full beauty retouching suite, skin smoothing, face sculpting, eye enhancement, body shaping, without paying. Standard filters, basic artistic styles, background removal, collage tools, and basic video trimming are all free. Standard-resolution export is free.

If you mostly edit selfies for Instagram stories or make quick collages, you might never hit the limits that make Pro necessary.

    Should You Upgrade

    • Upgrade if AI Expand or batch processing would change how you edit. Those are the features with no free-tier equivalent. If you make YouTube thumbnails and regularly need to expand tight photos into 16:9, Pro pays for itself. If you edit event photos in batches of 50+, Pro's batch processing is a time machine.
    • Upgrade if the watermark bothers you and you post enough that it matters. The watermark is small and unobtrusive, but it's there.
    • Skip Pro if you're a casual user who edits a few photos a week and doesn't need AI Expand or batch processing. The free tier is genuinely capable.
