PojavLauncher Gladiolus Update: LTW Renderer, 1.21+ Compatibility, and ReplayMod Support

2026-07-23
PojavLauncher Gladiolus update adds LTW renderer with Sodium and Iris support, fixes black screen on Minecraft 1.21.1+, and enables ReplayMod. Full patch notes and what's new.
The PojavLauncher Gladiolus release in January 2025 was the biggest technical leap the launcher has made, and possibly its last major update before the project's archival. It introduced a completely new rendering engine, fixed the long-standing black screen issue on Minecraft 1.21.1+, and brought ReplayMod recording to mobile for the first time.
What's New
| Feature | What Changed |
|---|---|
| LTW Renderer | New custom GLES 3.x renderer replacing GL4ES as default |
| 1.21.1+ Compatibility | Black/red screen on newer Minecraft versions fully resolved |
| ReplayMod Support | Works through optional FFmpeg plugin |
| Quick Settings Sidebar | In-game controls for resolution, gestures, and gyro |
| UI Improvements | Better default resolution, smoother install flow |
The LTW Renderer Changes Everything
The headline feature of Gladiolus is the LTW (Large Thin Wrapper) renderer. Before this update, PojavLauncher used GL4ES to translate OpenGL calls to OpenGL ES , a translation layer that worked for basic rendering but frequently broke with complex mods and newer Minecraft versions.
LTW is a ground-up rewrite. Instead of patching around OpenGL incompatibilities, it implements a full GLES 3.x rendering pipeline that handles modern graphics operations natively. The result: Sodium, Iris shaders, the Create mod, and ReplayMod all run on Android without the visual glitches and crashes that plagued GL4ES.
The practical impact is simple. You can now run a modded Minecraft experience on your phone that looks and performs like a lightweight PC setup. LTW doesn't make your phone as fast as a gaming desktop , that's not the point. It removes the rendering bottleneck that prevented major mods from working at all.
1.21.1+ Finally Works
For months, players couldn't run Minecraft 1.21.1 or newer on PojavLauncher without hitting a black or red screen. The issue traced back to GL4ES failing to handle rendering changes Mojang introduced in the 1.21 series.
Gladiolus completely resolves this. The LTW renderer handles 1.21.1+ properly, so you can play Tricky Trials content on your phone. If you were stuck on 1.20 because of the black screen bug, this update is the fix.
ReplayMod on Mobile
ReplayMod, the tool that lets you record gameplay and fly through it like a cinematic camera, now works on Android through an optional FFmpeg plugin. Install the plugin through the launcher's add-on manager, and ReplayMod records just like it does on PC.
Rendering replays on mobile takes longer than on desktop, but the recording itself doesn't impact gameplay performance much. It's a nice addition for content creators who record on PC but want to capture quick clips on the go.
Quick Settings Sidebar
A new in-game sidebar gives you quick access to settings that used to require restarting the game. Change resolution, toggle gesture controls, enable or disable gyro aiming, all from a swipeable panel without leaving your world. It's a small quality-of-life change that eliminates a lot of friction when dialing in performance mid-game.
The Day-One Patch
The initial Gladiolus build (January 17) shipped with a few bugs. A day-one patch on January 18 made three important fixes:
- Saved control layouts would sometimes fail to load, fixed.
- The launcher UI could freeze in certain launch states, fixed.
- Rapidly deleting buttons in the control editor caused a crash, fixed.
- Default localization strings were updated and new languages added.
If you're installing Gladiolus, make sure you're on the January 18 build (gladiolus-20250118) or later.
Where PojavLauncher Stands Now
Gladiolus turned out to be the final major release of the original PojavLauncher. The team archived the project in September 2025, transitioning development to AngelAuraMC's Amethyst project. The Gladiolus build remains fully functional; it still downloads, installs, and runs Minecraft 1.21+ without issues, but it won't receive further updates from the original team.
This creates an interesting situation for players. Gladiolus is stable and proven. Amethyst is the future but still maturing. If you need a dependable Minecraft Java launcher for Android right now, Gladiolus is the clear choice. If you want to follow active development, keep an eye on Amethyst builds.
