Gravity Game Vision has opened pre-registration for Ragnarok The New World: the biggest reimagining of the RO formula in two decades. This isn't another mobile port of classic Ragnarok Online. It's a full open-world MMORPG built from the ground up with the classes, monsters, and systems RO players remember, but with modern design sensibilities that address things the original never could.

Ragnarok: The New World is a free-to-play open-world MMORPG for Android, iOS, and PC. It's developed by Gravity Game Vision, a subsidiary of Gravity. The company that created the original Ragnarok Online in 2002.

The game takes place in the familiar Rune-Midgard setting with Prontera, Payon, Morroc, and other iconic locations, but rebuilt as a connected open-world. You're not clicking between maps with loading screens: you walk from one zone to the next. The art style keeps the 2D/3D hybrid look that defines RO but renders everything at modern resolutions with dynamic lighting and weather.

Class switching is free and unlimited. You don't need to create separate characters for each class : one character levels each class independently. Skills and levels don't transfer between classes, but you can swap anytime. This is the single biggest quality-of-life improvement over classic RO.

How Combat Has Changed

Combat in The New World keeps the auto-attack foundation of classic RO but adds active skill rotations, dodge mechanics, and position-based damage. Bosses have telegraphed attacks you need to avoid, and party composition actually matters beyond "bring more damage."

The old RO system where you auto-attacked for 30 seconds between skill casts is gone. Skills have cooldowns, combos exist between classes, and positioning affects damage output. It's closer to modern MMO combat while keeping the visual readability that made RO's battles satisfying to watch.

MVP System and Mounts

MVPs are the big field bosses that RO is famous for. The New World keeps the MVP hunt format but makes a significant change: defeating an MVP lets you use it as a mount.

Imagine riding Baphomet through Prontera. Or using Golden Thief Bug as your personal transportation. Each MVP mount has unique movement properties : some are fast on land, some can glide, some leave visual effects as they move. This turns MVP hunting from "get the card and move on" into "which boss do I want to ride today."

Player Economy and Trading

The stall system is back and it's the real deal. You set up a physical shop in town that other players can browse. Set your own prices. Haggle through in-game chat. Run a market empire from a street corner in Prontera.

What makes this work in a modern MMO context: the interface is cleaner than classic RO, you can search across all active stalls, and there's a price history tracker so you know what items actually sell for. The economy layer is deep enough to be a full game mode if you're into that: Merchant mains can make more Zeny trading than most classes make farming.
